Matrix ry
Matrix ry is the student organization of mathematics students at the University of Helsinki. We organize recreational activities, festivities, and events related to studying mathematics or working as a mathematician for our members. Matrix also promotes the interests of mathematics students in decision-making at the university.

Welcome to the Matrix website! Matrix is an organization of all mathematics students that also welcomes other students from Kumpula and the University of Helsinki. On campus, we stay in our student room in Komero on the 3rd floor of Exactum and in the evenings you can often find us at various events that Matrix organises on average several times a month.

Vappukatto ja Mantan lakitus 30.4. & Yhteislähtö 1.5. // The May Day Rooftop and The Crowning of Manta 30.4. & Joint departure 1.5.
Vappukatto 30.4. Vappukatto järjestetään jälleen Physicumin katolla torstaina 30.4.2026! Kaikki Kumpulan opiskelijat ovat tervetulleita! Yhteinen kokoontuminen katolle lähtöä varten alkaa Physicumin aulassa klo. 11.15 ja katolle lähdetään noin klo. 11.30. Tapahtuman jälkeen on luvassa yhteistä grillailua A.I. Virtasen aukiolla. Pukukoodina on haalarit! Vappukatossa tärkeää on, että toimitaan turvallisesti: - Katon kaiteita vasten ei saa nojata, istua niiden päällä tai roikkua yli. - Lippusiimalla erotetulle alueelle (jossa on mittauslaitteita) ei saa mennä. - Katolta ei saa heittää mitään alas. - Roskat on vietävä mukana lähtiessä. - Humaltuneena/muiden aineiden vaikutuksen alaisena ei pääse katolle. Mantan lakitus 30.4. Ohjelma Mantalla alkaa klo 15.45 ja H-hetki koittaa klo 18, jolloin Manta saa lakkinsa. Tule mukaan! Lakitusvuorossa on Helsingin yliopiston ylioppilaskunta (HYY). Lakituksen teemana on Itämeri ja sen hyvinvointi. Muistutuksena vielä, että ylioppilaat saavat laittaa ylioppilaslakkinsa päähän vasta sen jälkeen kun Manta on lakitettu. Yhteislähtö 1.5. Matrix ry:n yhteislähtö lähtee Kaivopuistoon 1.5. klo 11.00 Rautatieasemalta. Lippuvastaavat tunnistat heidän kantamastaan Matrixin lipusta. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The May Day Rooftop 30.4. The May Day Rooftop is held again on the roof of Physicum on Thursday 30.4.2026! All students of Kumpula are welcome! The gathering for going to the roof starts in the lobby of Physicum at 11.15 and we leave to go the roof at around 11.30 (at the latest). After the event, there will be a joint barbecue at the A.I. Virtanen square. The dress code is overralls! During the May Day Rooftop, it's important to act safely: - Do not lean against, sit on or hang over the railings of the roof. - You may not enter the area separated by the flag line (where there are measuring devices). - You must not throw anything down from the roof. - Garbage must be taken with you when you leave. - You cannot get on the roof if you are drunk/under the influence of other substances. The Crowning of Manta 30.4. The program at Manta starts at 15.45 and the H-hour arrives at 18 o'clock, when Manta receives her cap. Come along! It's the Student Union of the University of Helsinki's (HYY) turn to crown Manta. The theme for the crowning is the Baltic sea and its well-being. A reminder: students may put on their students caps only after Manta has been crowned. Joint departure 1.5. Matrix ry's joint departure for Kaivopuisto leaves on 1.5. at 11 o'clock from the Central Railway Station. You can recognize the flag correspondents from the Matrix flag they carry.

Matrix's website now also in English! In early 2024, our website finally got a long-awaited feature: English translations. You can easily change the language by clicking on the flag in the top right-hand corner (bottom of the page menu on mobile). Not all the information may have been translated yet, but all the English versions will be available soon. Have a good time surfing on the Matrix website!
