February is here and Valentine’s Day is only a few nights away. In honour of the special day, we at Resonanssi and Matrix have decided to join our forces and present to you the Valentine's Day sitsit for the third time! <3

The sitsit will be held on Friday 14.2. in the New Student House’s Alina hall (Mannerheimintie 5 A, 3rd floor). The evening will start with a cocktail event at 5:30pm and we'll move to the tables around 6pm. The afterparty is of course at Matlu-Klusteri (Leppäsuonkatu 11). The dress code is overalls and any Valentine's themed accessories you have :). Participation fee is 15€.

Matrix's statutory spring meeting is at Klusteri's club room on Thursday 20.2. from 4 pm onwards. The address is Leppäsuonkatu 11. You can get inside by ringing the doorbell labeled "Christina Regina".

The meeting will discuss the annual report and financial statement of 2024 as well as the equality and environment plans of 2025. You can find the full agenda of the meeting down below.

All full members have a right to a vote at the meeting, and all non-voting/auxiliary members have a right to attend. 

Please note that the names of the people attending the meeting will be written down to the minutes of the meeting, which will be archived for the next six years.

Accessibility information: A small threshold at the front door. Heavy doors, entry by ringing the doorbell. Accessible toilet outside the Klusteri space itself, accessed using the elevator. A new edition of Matrix's songbook is finally being released! The first look at this new songbook will take place on Monday, 24.2., starting at 16:00 at Klusteri, where we will test the new songbook by singing through it entirely. A great practice session for Saturday's annual celebration!

This event is suitable for both active sitsi-goers interested in singing some of the rarer songs and for new participants who want a refresher on the most common songs.

The new songbook will be available for purchase during the event and at Saturday's annual celebration at a discounted price of 8€ (normally 10€). However, buying the book is not necessary to participate—lyrics will be made visible to everyone. The event will also offer throat lozenges, among other things. There is no need to register; you can arrive freely at any time, but singing from the beginning of the book will start at approximately 16:15.

On Tuesday, 25.2., starting at 16:00, we will watch our namesake movie, The Matrix, this time in a more refined setting, as we have rented the movie theater Riviera (address: Telakkakatu 7) for the occasion. This event has a limited number of spots, so registration is required. Registration opens on Friday, 7.2., at 14:00 on Matrix's website. The event is free of charge.

Each participant will receive a glass of Prosecco as a welcome drink and nachos with salsa and crème fraîche as movie snacks. Please inform us of any dietary restrictions related to these when registering. If you’re still hungry after that, drinks, candy, and popcorn can be purchased at the theater at your own expense.

The movie will be shown in English, and unfortunately, there will be no subtitles.

Doors to the theater open at 16:00, at which time the welcome drinks and snacks will be served. The screening of The Matrix (1999, 2h 16min, note: no subtitles) will take place from approximately 16:30 to 19:00. Please make sure to arrive on time!

A traditional march from campus to Gustaf Hällström’s grave at Hietaniemi Cemetery. The group will depart together from Komero at 16:15. Dress code: overalls!

The evening continues at Sivistys (address: Leppäsuonkatu 11) with casual socializing, food, and sauna. If you want to use the sauna, bring your own towel and swimwear. Dress code: overalls.

Since academic dances will be performed at the anniversary dinner, we will hold dance rehearsals at Matlu-Klusteri starting at 18:00. The dances will include the Viennese waltz, cicapo, tango, waltz, and interlude waltzes. No partner or prior registration is required, and anyone is welcome to join—even those not attending the formal dance.

Celebrating Matrix’s birthday a little early (officially on 1.3.) with cake and coffee on campus. Served in Exactum’s third floor, near Komero, until supplies last.

Matrix ry is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and we want to mark this special occasion with an annual celebration on Saturday, March 1, 2025!

These grand festivities will be held at Ravintola Dylan & Friends at Keilaniementie 1, starting at 4:00 PM with a cocktail reception. After the reception, the formal banquet will begin around 6:00 PM, featuring a three-course dinner. Following the banquet, there will be academic dances. The dress code for the annual celebration is formal attire with academic honors.

The cost of the celebration is €115 (student) or €120 (graduate). Additionally, you can support Matrix’s activities by purchasing a supporter ticket for €140.

The day after the annual celebration, a silliaamiainen (sillis) will be organized at Juhlatila Linda at Hämeentie 11. Tickets for sillis can be purchased for €15 alongside the annual celebration registration.

All registered attendees will receive a confirmation email in February (to the email address linked to your Kide.app account) once registration closes. The email will include detailed information about the celebration and sillis schedule.

Information about registration:
Registration for the annual celebration opens on Monday, January 20, at 12:00 PM, via Kide.app. Tickets must be paid for during the purchase process, making the registration binding! If you haven’t used Kide.app before, it’s recommended to create an account in advance before registration opens. During ticket purchase, you’ll be asked for specific details, such as meal and drink preferences and tablemate requests. NOTE! Be sure to select the correct ticket type during registration! Do not choose ticket types intended for invited guests. Non-invited guest ticket types will only appear in the Kide.app event when registration begins on Monday, January 20, at 12:00 PM.

Registration closes on Monday, February 3, at 11:55 PM. The information provided on the registration form can be modified in Kide.app until registration closes. After this point, it will no longer be possible to make changes.

What are “vujut”?
If you’re a freshman or have never attended an annual celebration before, here’s a brief overview of what “vujut” (annual celebrations) are:

Vujut can be thought of as a fancier version of sitsit. Like sitsit, they are academic table parties, but vujut are much more formal.

The annual celebration begins with a cocktail reception, where partners and sponsors deliver greetings to Matrix’s board. After the reception, the banquet starts, which includes program numbers like speeches, performances, and recognition of contributors to Matrix. Following the banquet, there will be academic dances and an afterparty.

The dress code is formal attire, and the etiquette rules are stricter. Don’t let this intimidate you, though—annual celebrations are an experience worth having! This year is especially unique as we’re celebrating a major milestone with a 30th-anniversary celebration. Such an occasion might only come around once during your studies!

P.S. Don’t forget about the events leading up to the annual celebration during the anniversary week! Activities include singing through the songbook, a screening of The Matrix movie, the anniversary cluster, academic dance rehearsals, cake and coffee on campus, and an evening for former chairs and vice-chairs. More information about these events will be shared closer to the annual celebration.

After the anniversary gala, we recover with sillis (hangover brunch) at juhlatila Linda and sauna facility Väinö (2nd floor) at Hämeentie 11A. The event starts at 11:15, though food and drinks may not be available immediately. The event ends at 21:00.

There is a sauna and an outdoor jacuzzi—bring appropriate gear (towel, swimwear) if you wish to use them. Food and drinks will be provided.

Ahoy! ⚓

Deripaatti is returning once again to the Tallink Victoria I cruise ship on the 8th and 9th of March 2025. This 22-hour cruise brings together all physics and mathematics students from all around Finland for an unforgettable party on board. The evening will culminate with the amazing Arttu Wiskari taking the stage at the Starlight Nightclub.

The Deripaatti cruise departs from Länsiterminaali at 18:35 and returns to the same place the next day at 16:00. There will be an opportunity to shop in Estonia on Sunday from 8:00 to 12:00. 

Accommodation on the ship will be in B-standard cabins for 4 people. Price per person is 34€. Meals can be purchased separately according to the following table:
- Dinner from 18:00 onwards, €41.50
- Breakfast from 7:15 onwards, €19.50
- Lunch from 14:15 onwards, €30.50
